My Story

Hi, and welcome!

I’m Kayla Gonzalez, a Latina American based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am a yoga teacher, retreat leader, and community builder with a deep love for gathering people in spaces of connection, healing, and transformation.

My journey with yoga began in 2013, and during college I developed a love for Zen meditation that eventually led me to study abroad in Bangkok, Thailand. There, I was introduced to Buddhist philosophy and contemplative practices, opening the door to a lifelong exploration of spirituality, self-inquiry, and Eastern wisdom traditions.

It was in my late twenties, during a time of hopelessness, challenge, and deep personal transformation, that yoga became more than a practice—it became a path of remembrance, one I could never have imagined would become the foundation of my life.

As I immersed myself more deeply in the teachings, I felt a longing to understand the roots of the tradition, to learn from teachers, and to experience the wisdom of lineage. This journey led me to the teachings of Sri Anandamayi Ma, where I found a spiritual home and a way of living grounded in devotion, compassion, and service.

I was not raised with yoga, meditation, or Eastern spiritual traditions. I grew up on the north side of Milwaukee, with a childhood filled with ordinary things—cartoons, family, friends, and everyday moments that shaped who I am. The path I walk today was not something I planned or imagined; it is something that found me.

Looking back, I feel deep gratitude for the way this practice entered my life and continues to reveal itself. What began as curiosity became a calling, and what once felt unexpected now feels like a blessing that was always waiting to unfold. I hold this journey as a karmic gift and a dharmic path—one that continues to teach me, humble me, and guide me.

Since then, my journey has taken me around the world. I have studied in India, Costa Rica, and Peru, and have had the privilege of sitting with spiritual teachers, renunciates, wisdom keepers, and practitioners who have dedicated their lives to sacred traditions and the pursuit of truth. Each experience has reminded me that the path is not about becoming someone different, but about returning to the essence of who we already are.

I remain a devoted student first. Every day, I continue to learn, practice, and grow—trying my best to walk this path with sincerity, humility, and an open heart. The teachings and experiences I have received continue to shape the way I teach, lead retreats, hold space, and walk alongside others who are also seeking greater peace, connection, and meaning.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: each of us carries an inherent goodness, a resilient joy, and an inner wisdom that remains with us through all seasons of life. While our experiences may make us feel separate, there is a deeper connection that unites us all. Through practice, presence, and community, we create opportunities to reconnect with ourselves and remember the qualities that have always been within us.

My intention is to create spaces and offer practices where people feel welcomed exactly as they are—spaces to slow down, reconnect, breathe deeply, and remember the profound gift of being alive. Inspired by a timeless aspiration shared across wisdom traditions, I offer my work with the heartfelt wish that all beings everywhere may experience happiness, freedom, and peace.

I am honored to walk alongside you on this journey.
